With a predominantly female membership, achieving gender equity is central to the work of the ANMF.

Australia’s national gender pay gap stands at 11.5%, translating to women earning $0.79 cents that every $1 men earn. Projections suggest it could take another 26 years to close this gap. Supporting ANMF’s predominately female membership, the union has strongly lobbied over many years for changes to support equality and close the existing disparity.

The ANMF continues to advocate for a national policy to address the diminished earning capacity of women throughout their working lives, largely due to time taken outside of the workforce for caring responsibilities.
