Unions welcome review of Closing Loopholes workplace reforms

09 December 2025

Australian Unions have welcomed the announcement of an independent two-year review of the Albanese Government’s Closing Loopholes workplace reforms.

The Closing Loopholes reforms of 2023 and 2024 brought in Same Job Same Pay for labour-hire workers, world-first rights for gig workers, and better protections for casual workers, among a range of other changes.

Unions will participate in the review process, where it will provide evidence of the laws’ positive ongoing impact.

“These reforms are making a difference to working people’s living standards and promoting fairness for both employers and workers across Australian workplaces,” said Australian Council of Trade Unions Assistant Secretary Liam O’Brien.

The review will be led by former Fair Work Commissioner Susan Booth and commence on 15 December 2025, with a final report due to the Government by 15 June 2026. The review will also examine the operation of the Paid Family and Domestic Violence Leave Act 2022.
