The ANMF Federal professional team strategically represents the interests of nurses and midwives to advance their professions and improve the health and well-being of the community while contributing to the development of a fairer society.
Your professional concerns are our priority. Our work focuses on:
- Influencing national developments of importance to nursing and midwifery;
- Advocacy and representation of nurses’ and midwives’ professional interests at a national level, through a range of activities;
- Providing evidence and making submissions on professional issues to governments and other authorities on behalf of nurses and midwives.
In conjunction with every branch of the ANMF, we also coordinate the Professional Advisory Committee of the Union to ensure your specific professional interests are protected.
Working with the federal executive we develop and review ANMF national policy, position statements, guidelines, reports, issues papers and professional practice standards. These publications are designed to assist ANMF members in their daily nursing and midwifery practice; and also to articulate the ANMF’s view to governments, other health professionals and the community.

Professional Priorities
The ANMF professional team establishes relationships with other national nursing and midwifery organisations, governments, consumer and carer groups, and relevant health and aged care national bodies to progress issues of importance to nursing and midwifery and broader society.
We also provide professional input and guidance to national ANMF campaigns.
The ANMF professional team participates in the analysis, development and review of policy and advocates for a broad range of issues, focusing on nursing and midwifery. The aim of our work is to enhance the safety and quality of care leading to improved health outcomes for the Australian community.
