Southern Cross Care Tasmania are planning to terminate almost 50 enrolled nurses, replacing them with lower-paid personal care workers.

The Royal Commission recommended more qualified nurses in aged care, not less. Current government reforms in aged care are focused on improving the quality of care for residents, but some providers are gaming the system to maximise profits.

It’s unconscionable that these taxpayer-funded aged care providers are manipulating the Albanese Government’s reforms. Mandating minimum care minutes for ENs, RNs and PCWs in nursing homes across Australia must be implemented as a matter of urgency to protect the residents.
