Our universal healthcare system is under attack
As nurses and midwives, we know that each and every Australian has the right to receive the highest level of healthcare. The Australian community joins our frustration at the lack of funding, lack of nurses and midwives and the lack of time to care.
The ANMF believes that Medicare must remain free of charge, and we oppose any attempts to introduce American style payments for healthcare. The focus must remain on preventative care, and a universal health system that is affordable and accessible.
We urge Australian politicians to do more to improve the quality of healthcare in Australian and to attract and retain nurses and midwives in every setting. The ANMF is concerned that recent attempts to introduce a co-payment for visits to the GP and other health cutbacks announced by the Abbott Government in Budget 2014 will do nothing to improve preventative health and will only worsen the situation.
The ANMF is also fighting for nurses on every shift in Aged Care, and improvements for Graduate Nurses to ensure they gain employment when they have completed their qualifications.
We must protect the professions of nursing and midwifery for the sake of safe patient care.
You can help us put patients interests and patient care at the forefront of healthcare debate, by joining the ANMF and taking part in our campaigns. Together, we can change the minds of politicians and make sure health is a priority for all politicians in Australia.
